TURN AWAY

A MEDITATION ON TURNING TOWARD GOD

pause when agitated

WHEN AGITATED OR DOUBTFUL

"From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.'"
Matthew 4:17

DISCUSSION

the Greek word translated as “repent” is μετανοεῖτε (metanoeite).

This verb comes from the root μετάνοια (metanoia), which literally means “a change of mind” or “a change in thinking.” - a turning towards God.

Meditation is the practice of “stopping when agitated” and turning toward God for help.

Are not all thoughts essentially agitation?

THE PRACTICE

Resist no thought.
Recoil from no thought.
Remember no thought.

Notice the next thought, then let it go by saying:

“You alone I trust; thank You”.

Notice your breath.

Repeat these three steps.

ASSURANCE

"They are the ones who believe and whose hearts are assured through the remembrance of God. Absolutely, through the remembrance of God do the hearts find rest."
