An Eleventh Step Meditation
Instruction
The AA program is a set of steps whose purpose is to change our beliefs and actions from a self-centered world view to one of surrender and trust in a Higher Power.
Therefore AA centered meditations should reflect this goal (surrender and trust). This meditation is in that spirit.
Purpose of this meditation... SANITY: the goal of our program as stated in step 2.
Mechanism... Coming to sanity by letting go and letting God.
That is, to see God's creation just as He deemed it to be, not as we think it ought to be.
We start each meditation session by reminding ourselves of our intention:
SANITY by LETTING GO and LETTING GOD
Begin by taking a couple of deep breaths and then just relax into stillness. As thoughts, emotions, or body sensations arise we just notice them. We don't push them away or grab onto them whether they are pleasant or unpleasant.
After noticing each thought or emotion or body sensation, we say to
ourselves mentally "Let this go and let God - Thy will be
done" and then gently focus our attention on our breath.
We might feel our breath in our chest, stomach, or even in our nostrils.
Repeat this process (notice - let go,let God - "Thy will be done" - focus on breath)
for about one minute longer than is comfortable. The goal is to get to about 20 minutes
at which time the brain begins to change neurologically.
Always take what you get from each session
remembering that God is listening and responding.
Barriers to a good practice
Remember God will guide if you will let Him.
Meditation is just barrier removal - removing how we think it ought to be and coming
to see how it is as God created it:
PERFECT IN THIS PRESENT MOMENT
You will come to see that you need do nothing to get out of a problem you don’t have.
May the Lord shower you with His mercy and bless your affairs with His guidance.
